Montgomery NHS Chapter Receives National Service Award The Montgomery Area High School NHS Chapter has won the National Service Award of Excellence for its exemplary record of leadership, service and efforts to improve the school and community. Among its many service projects, as well as the society’s volunteer work for elementary and high school events, this chapter’s 2023 Clubs for a Cause project solidified this award. This project brought together the school and local community to collect blanket kits and make and donate 115 blankets to Project Linus for Christmas in December of 2023. “Receiving an NHS Chapter Pillar Award reflects the extraordinary commitment of students who are making a real difference in their school and community,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “The Montgomery chapter showed what's possible when young people come together to lead, serve and inspire others.” Congratulations to our current and past NHS members responsible for this honor. Special congratulations to NHS coordinator for the district, Mrs. Jessica Carpenter.

"Broadcasting Students Take on Real World Opportunity” The HS Broadcasting program was given an amazing real-world application opportunity to showcase video and editing skills. Due to current renovations to the WVIA studio, the program was asked to film Camden Dalrymple’s upcoming Performing Artist of the Week dance segment in house. After seeing some of our past student work, WVIA offered our kids the opportunity to not only film for them but to also handle the edit of the segment that will be featured in the spring of 2025. Congratulations to drone videographer, Layne Gingery, and lead editor, Zoe Furman.

MAHS Announces First Historians of the Month Congratulations to the first MAHS students ever to be acknowledged as “historians of the month.” This will be a new and regular award given by our history department. The winners are Trace Furman, Hunter Young, and Connor Jarrett. All had comments on their win. Trace… “My favorite topic I have taken so far in social studies has been World History with Mr. Newcomer. I enjoyed learning about all the early civilizations and how those cultures have been developed into the modern world throughout history. My favorite unit would have to be learning about the Greek and Roman Empires because I enjoy learning about their governments and way of life. People who would like to learn about connections throughout history and how many major battles compare would enjoy World History very much.” Hunter… “The subject of History is, and always will be, one of my favorite subjects. No matter what time period, I will always be eager to learn about it. It all started when Covid-19 hit the world and brought us into isolation as a society. I was scrolling through my YouTube recommended feed one day when I found a video that caught my eye. It was a video about World War I by The Infographics Show. I was fascinated when my own two eyes had seen this. I just had to learn more about this! I took off to the search bar to look up more, and I found it. Ever since that day, History has been very important to me, something I hold near and dear to my heart. Because I know so much about it, I can see parts of history repeating in our modern day. Overall, History can help us see the wrongs of the past and stray away from them.” Connor… “History is very important to me for many different reasons, but the main reason is that I want to learn from past historical figures to mirror some of their ways so that, in the future, I can make a positive impact. Another reason history is important is because I want to learn from past mistakes that people in history have made so I don’t make and can help other people not make those mistakes. The last reason is that history will always repeat itself, so it will help me understand why things happen and help solve the problem if needed.”

During their STEM Unit in Library Class, the 6th graders created a unique board game that featured beginner math skills. They had to use coding and engineering (including 3D printing) to create these games. Yesterday, the 6th graders invited the Kindergarten and 1st grade classes to play their board games! Everyone had lots of fun... great job 6th grade!
