Week 8 Athlete of the Week - Trace Furman - Football
After missing his freshman campaign with a serious injury, Trace worked hard and battled back to make a tremenous impact on the varsity football team this year. He shined on both sides of the ball. He finished the year with 107 tackles on the defensive side of the ball. Saturday he had 60 yards rushing and 22 yards receiving while finding the end zone twice! He also had 12 tackles.
Coach Tice- "Trace is an incredibly hard working young man and always prepared. His preparation shows by his performance on the field on both sides of the ball."
Great season Trace!

Week 7 Athlete of the Week - Lily Burchell - Soccer and Cheer
Lily participated in both girls soccer and varsity cheer this fall season. Her coaches had this to say about her:
Coach Lounsbury - "Lily is a consistent force on the defensive line for the team. She is a strategic player with passion for the game that gives her an aggressive edge over many of her opponents. Lily works hard to become a better player both on and off the field making her an extremely valuable player for our team."
Coach Aicher - " Lily is a strong example of a true student-athlete. She puts academis as a top priority but is also a team player doing whatever she can to make the team better as a whole. She encourages her teammates, participates in extra events outside of games and practices that benefit the team, and is constantly learning how to be better at her repsective sports. She is passionate about the sports she is involved in, and I am so proud of all that she has learned this season in her first year of varsity cheer."
Way to go Lily!

What a tremendous start to the 2024-25 school year for our athletic programs. First, thank you all for your support to the students and coaches throughout the fall season. This marks the first time in school history to anyone's knowledge that each of our teams qualified for the district playoffs. Here is a quick synopsis of each team:
Golf - The golf team captured the 2024 Mid Penn League title for the second season in a row. They finished 10-2 in the league and 13-9 overall. Liam Adams was selected as the league MVP and Coach Cloud was named "Coach of the Year!" They finished 12th in the district championships.
Girls Tennis - The girls finished 12-3 during the regular season and continued their streak of qualifying for the district team tournament. They finished second in the league with a 4-2 record and earned the #5 seed in the district team tournament. They fell to a solid Danville team in the first round. First year player, Cali Barnes advanced to the quarterfinals of the individual tournament before she lost to the eventual district runner-up.
Girls Soccer - A historical year for the girls' soccer program as they qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2007. The girls ended the regular season 10-8 and lost in the first round of the district playoffs to Sullivan County. Zoe Furman was selected as Mid-Penn first team all-star.
Boys Soccer - The boys soccer team made it back-to-back appearances in the district playoffs after finishing the season 10-8. They earned the #5 seed in the class A playoffs and fell in the first round to Southern Columbia. The boys had 3 first team all-star selections in Dylan Sherman, Dylan Hill, and Damaj Stewart-Williams.
XC - John Shrimp was the solo member of the team this year but had an outstanding season. John ran in the class A boys' championships and finished 12 overall in the race. He missed qualifying for the state tournament by 2 positions.
Football - The best season since the early 2000s, the football team finished the regular season 7-3. They finished 5-1 in the NTL small school division and ended up second in the standings behind Muncy. The team lost a hard-fought game last Saturday night to Line Mountain in the first round of the district playoffs. Coy Bryson ended the season with over 1500 yards rushing and Trace Furman and Cam Woltz both eclipsed the 100 tackle mark.
BAND and CHEER - A huge shout out to the band and cheer for their excellent performances and display of school spirit during our fall sports season! Thank you for keeping RAIDER NATION engaged during all of our events!

Attention Seniors and Senior Parents! Next week on Wednesday November 6th, you will have your Senior portraits taken by our school photographer in the auditorium. Please check your email for your scheduled portrait time. Contact Miss Aichner at saichner@montasd.org with any questions. Below is a guide for appropriate attire.
Appropriate Senior Portrait Attire:
**All Attire MUST BE SCHOOL APPROPRIATE and follow school dress codes** The expectation is that you will be in business casual for your picture. Please avoid t-shirts (especially any graphics or words), anything with holes, stains, etc. If you have any questions or concerns about your outfit, ask Miss Aichner.
LADIES
-A formal sweater, blouse, or dress is good. Long sleeves or capped short sleeves are ideal. Avoid strong patterns - simple is best. Wear solid color with no large distracting patterns. Avoid thin sleeves or “spaghetti” type straps.
GENTLEMEN
-A dressy or button-up shirt with/without a tie has been the standard and we still recommend it. Sweater shirts, pullovers, polo-style shirts are also acceptable. Again, simple is best — no crazy patterns, please.

Congratulations to this week’s Artist of the Week, 6th grader, P. Campbell.
As a flutist and a member of the chorus, P. Campbell has demonstrated a strong passion for music. She has been a member of the band since 4th grade and a member of chorus since 5th grade. Her involvement with the Uptown Music Collective showcases her commitment to honing her craft, and she consistently strives for excellence in her musical endeavors. She is a diligent worker, coming to every rehearsal and lesson well-prepared. Her enthusiasm for music and her supportive spirit inspire her peers and enhance our school community. We are grateful for her contributions to our elementary music programs!

Congratulations to this week’s Artist of the Week, Jaiden N. Skiro. She is an incredible visual art student in and out of the classroom. Jaiden takes every art challenge presented to her and finds a way to make it hers. If she had to choose an art medium as her favorite, it would be acrylic paint. “I really enjoy working with acrylic paints in either marker or palette form. It’s the medium I used often as a kid so I’m more comfortable with it.” Jaiden has recently been chosen to represent Lycoming County in the PennDOT’s “Paint the Plow” art contest. High school art students were invited to submit creative artwork for consideration from surrounding counties. This program allows PennDOT and local communities to cultivate public awareness and promote winter driving safety on state roadways. Jaiden will be painting her winning design onto a retired plow blade which once completed will be on display at our local county maintenance office. Her plans include attending Penn State University and majoring in Psychology with a concentration towards art therapy. When asked what art means to her she stated, “Art allows me to escape from the world around us. It’s a way to ground myself and distracts me from everything. Art is always there and can be created in many different forms. Even a simple pencil drawing can get a point across.”

🇺🇸ATTENTION VETERANS and FAMILIES of VETERANS 🇺🇸 Please consider sending pictures of enlisted servicemen and women and/or veterans who are Montgomery alums for our annual HIGH SCHOOL Veterans Day observance. If you submitted a photo last year, you are already in this year’s slideshow. Please do not confuse this with the elementary assembly. They are two separate presentations. Please include name, rank, and branch. Submit to Mrs. McNear via FB or email (cmcnear@montasd.org)

The girls soccer team will host Sullivan County tomorrow at 4pm at the MACC in the first round of the PIAA playoffs at 4pm. Tickets must be purchased via Hometown Ticketing for the event. NO PASSES OF ANY KIND WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Congratulations and thank you to senior, Emily Geiger, for representing Montgomery Area High School at this year’s 75th annual Flaming Foliage Festival in Renovo, PA. Geiger was escorted by 2023 alum, Peyton Cox, and spent the weekend experiencing the festival’s parade, banquet, and coronation interspersed with interviews and appearances as Montgomery’s representative.
