Miss Wells presents the
Elementary Guidance Program

Mission statement:
To be wholly committed to the development and nurturance of
each child's intellectual and emotional self.

What can the Elementary Guidance Department offer to you and your child?
  • Counseling
  • Collaboration and Consultation
  • Co-ordination

At the very heart of the Montgomery Area Elementary Guidance Program is the notion that student counseling is the counselor's primary function.  With this conviction, it can be assumed that the elementary school counselor will counsel individual children, groups of children, and adults significant to the children
If you believe that your child could benefit from individual or group counseling, please feel free to contact me. You are most welcome to engage in a personal meeting, which has proven to be the most productive; however, should this be difficult to arrange, a phone conference is always an option.

Counseling

Group counseling may focus on any of the following goals: Anger Management, Friendship and Social Skills, Self-Esteem and Self-Awareness, and Stress Management and Coping Skills. Most often, students are recommended by their homeroom teacher for participation in a specific group with parent permission obtained through a written permission form.

Individual student counseling involves working with students on issues and conflicts that arise in all settings, particularly in the school and home settings.

Collaboration and Consultation

Collaboration with teachers in an effort to complement their efforts in the classroom is another important role to be addressed. This collaboration/consultation may take many forms: sharing information and knowledge of child behavior and developmental theory, individualizing experiences for students to meet their specific needs (e.g., individualized behavior plans and reinforcement programs), and gathering additional student information by administering specific screenings or tests. Collaborative relationships concentrate on helping teachers, parents, and other peers, understand the influences that they, collectively and individually, exert on students.

If you believe that your child’s school experience could be enhanced through my involvement, either as a collaborator, consultant, or resource person, I urge you to give me a call.

Co-ordination

Very often, school counselors act as co-ordinators in bringing together individuals or groups of people, such as parents and teachers, as well as helping to co-ordinate outside services. Please don’t hesitate to look to me as a possible resource for services both within the school setting and in the outside community.
